Pedestrian hit and killed on I-20 in Columbia, troopers say
A pedestrian died after being hit by a car while crossing Interstate 20 late Sunday, according to troopers.
It happened around 10:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 65, according to Lance Cpl. David Jones of the S.C. Highway Patrol. That’s just before Broad River Road.
A Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on I-20 when the vehicle hit a pedestrian in the middle lane who was trying to cross the interstate, Jones said. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, died.
The driver of the Tahoe was not injured, Jones said.
The identity will be released by the Richland County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin is notified.
