Multi-car crash shut down part of major interstate in Richland County during commute

Part of Interstate 20 was blocked Tuesday afternoon after a crash, according to a tweet from S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Lance Cpl. David Jones.

The crash, which happened near the connection with SC 215 (Exit 68) in Richland County, involved multiple vehicles, according to the tweet.

The eastbound lanes of the interstate were blocked at 5:20 p.m., according to a post from the South Carolina Department of Transportation Midlands Twiter page.

That is during the evening commute.

Jones warned drivers they should “expect delays,” while the wreck was cleared, according to his tweet.

The delays were compounded by another collision that was reported by the SCDOT just after 4:30 p.m. That crash occurred in eastbound lanes of I-20, one mile west of Exit 58, according to a tweet.

SCDOT tweeted all eastbound lanes of I-20 had been reopened just before 6 p.m. Traffic was flowing again after the wreck was cleared, according to SCDOT.

No injuries have been reported, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Shortly after the lanes were reopened, two eastbound lanes just three miles away from the crash were closed because of a disabled vehicle on I-20, SCDOT tweeted. The disabled vehicle was reported near Exit 65 just after 6:20 p.m., causing the two left-hand lanes to be briefly closed, according to SCDOT.
