Woman airlifted after being attacked by dog at friend’s home, SC deputies say

A woman was airlifted to a hospital after being attacked by a dog at a friend’s home in upstate South Carolina, according to authorities.

It happened around 6:20 a.m. at a home on Marietta Road in Cherokee County, according to FOX Carolina. The deputy saw a German Shepherd dog that was continuing to be aggressive after already mauling a woman.

The deputy tried to use his Taser to get the dog away from the woman but it didn’t work, reports WYFF. The dog charged at the officer, who fired several shots from his service weapon at the animal.

The officer applied a tourniquet to the 61-year-old victim’s leg to stop the bleeding from a wound, and she was then airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, according to WSPA.

Deputies said the dog was in a fenced area of the yard, and that the unidentified victim was visiting a friend at the time, reports The Gaffney Ledger. The dog was taken by animal control, the newspaper reported.

There was no word on charges. Wednesday’s attack came just over two months after a Greenville County woman was killed when her two dogs attacked her in her front yard.
