Columbia airport now offering non-stop flights to this major city

Grab your swimsuit and sunglasses. Getting to sunny Florida beaches from Columbia just got easier.

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport is adding a nonstop flight from the Palmetto State’s capital to Miami, according to a statement from the airport.

The first American Airlines flight will take off Dec. 18, according to the statement. The route will be offered daily, leaving Columbia at 7:30 a.m. and arriving in Miami at 9:11 a.m.

The return flight will leave at 9:50 p.m. and land in Columbia at 11:30 p.m., according to the statement.

Each jet will be able to take 50 passengers.

“This is huge for the Midlands region,” airport director Mike Gula said, according to the statement. “Miami is a destination that has been a part of our airline and air service conversations for some time, so we are very excited to see this come to fruition.”

The first tickets to Miami can be reserved May 13.
