Billy Bob Thornton has a band, and they’re coming to Columbia

You can see Billy Bob Thornton perform in Columbia this summer, and not in a movie.

Thornton — the actor known for his roles in “Sling Blade,” “Bad Santa” and “Love Actually”will perform with his band the Boxmasters at The Senate on July 11.

Thornton’s been playing music almost as long as he’s been making movies. He released several albums of his own music in the 2000s in between making “Armageddon” and “Friday Night Lights” and being married to Angelina Jolie. Thornton has recorded and toured with the Boxmasters since 2007.

The band is currently touring in support of their ninth album, “Speck.”

Doors open for Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters at 7 p.m. July 11 at The Senate, 1022 Senate St.
