Worker killed in Orangeburg by falling concrete block

Orangeburg County deputies say a man was killed Wednesday when a part of a wall he was working on fell on him.

70-year-old Eleneas Mavins was killed when he and another man were taking down a wall at a closed car wash in the 2200 block of Magnolia Street, according to an incident report. A witness said Mavins was hit by a concrete block when the wall fell in the wrong direction.

Mavins died at the scene, the incident report said.

Authorities have ruled the death an accident at this time, according to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.
