WEST COLUMBIA, SC Riverwalk Park in West Columbia has reopened to the public following cleanup after last week’s storms.

The city of West Columbia announced Tuesday that all obstructions have been removed and that the park and amphitheater, site of the annual Rhythm on The River festival, are open to the public.

Some 20 tons of sand was brought in to replace sand washed away at the Amphitheater by flooding, West Columbia Public Works Director Jamie Hook said. That work was done first.

Some work will take longer, Hook said. An area of the Riverwalk path near Cayce has been barricaded off from the public while repairs are made.

“The river has eroded all the way up to a bench and nearly to the path,” Hook said.

Yellow caution lines on other areas of the path alert users to passable but uneven sections.
