Inmate who walked away from Lower Richland work site caught

An inmate who walked away from a work crew in Lower Richland on Friday is back in custody.

Eric Ryan Dickerson was apprehended shortly after 10 p.m. in the Garners Ferry Road area, according to the S.C. Department of Corrections.

The department thanked South Carolina Law Enforlcement Division, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department., the Columbia Fire Department and Columbia Police for helping in the search.

Dickerson was sent to prison in August 2018 after being found guilty of breaking into a vehicle in Greenville County, according to records. He’s had no disciplinary issues while imprisoned, his record shows. He was set to be released in April 2021.

Dickerson has a long criminal record in Greenville County going back to 2008 that includes dozens of thefts and at least one assault.

He was described as a bald white male with blue eyes. He’s about 6-foot-1-inch tall and weighs 186 pounds, according to the Department of Corrections.
