Early morning blaze at business blocks traffic in Lexington County, officials say

Firefighters are battling an early-morning blaze at a business that is blocking traffic on two busy roads, Lexington County officials said Monday.

The fire is at a commercial business in the 1600 block of Two Notch Road, county officials said on Twitter.

Because of the blaze, that section of Two Notch Road, and the area at its intersection with South Lake Drive are closed, according to the tweet. That is a busy area, where several restaurants and gas stations are located, in addition to the Lexington County Department of Social Services.

County officials said no injuries have been reported, and the fire was “controlled and contained” at about 8:15 a.m.

Information on what sparked the fire was not available.

Heavy clouds of smoke are moving toward Lexington, and residents have been warned they could see and smell the effects of the fire throughout the morning and afternoon, county officials said.

Three local companies were evacuated because of the fire, which county officials said was not a danger to the public.

There is no word on when the roads might be reopened.

The business was identified as Prestige Composites, WIS reported. The company works with plastics materials, synthetic resins, and nonvulcanizable elastomers, according to the Cortera Business Directory.

An unrelated fire was reported hours earlier in Richland County, when the Columbia Fire Department battled a blaze at two homes in the 2300 block of Washington Street. That is near the intersection of Gervais Street and Milwood Avenue.

No injuries were reported in the Columbia fire that was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, and was under control by the early morning hours, the fire department tweeted.
