Pier 1 Imports closing one of its two Columbia stores

Pier 1 Imports, a popular national brand for home goods and decor, is closing one of its two stores in Columbia.

The chain announced earlier this month that it would close nearly half of its more than 900 stores nationwide, following a recent trend of numerous large national chain stores shuttering as they struggle to compete with online shopping.

The Pier 1 store at 250 Harbison Blvd., in the popular Harbison shopping district, is closing, according to a marketing email from the store on Thursday. The email did not specify when the store would close but advertised a four-day sale with discounts up to 40% off furniture and decor items. The discounts are advertised to run Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 26.

The email does not indicate that Pier 1’s second Columbia store, on Garners Ferry Road, is closing. The store in the Shoppes at Woodhill shopping center at 6090 Garners Ferry Road is still listed on the store’s website.

The Harbison store has been removed from Pier 1’s store locator map on its website.

The next closest location to Columbia is in Augusta, Ga. No other stores are listed within 75 miles of Columbia.

Pier 1 has not shared a full list of stores that are closing, but Business Insider reported the company has deleted more than 260 stores from its website, indicating those stores might be closing.
