Columbia dance club The Woody is back! Here’s when it will reopen
Signature Columbia dance club The Woody will open in its new downtown location this month.
The club, which closed in the Vista last summer, will reopen in the 1600 block of Main Street beneath the popular Hendrix restaurant, which itself opened just a year ago in the renovated former Hennessy’s restaurant building.
The Woody was named for longtime Columbia radio personality Woody Windham when it opened in the Vista in March 2011 and became known for its dance classes. When it closed its Lady Street location last June, the owners started looking for a new home.
The Woody will host soft opening nights at its new location, 1649 Main St., on Wednesday, Feb. 19 (Shag Night), and Thursday, Feb. 20 (Salsa Night), according to announcements on its Facebook page.
On Friday, Feb. 21, The Woody officially will celebrate its new grand opening.
The club will be open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, according to its Facebook page. The new space will feature an open-air patio below street level and, of course, ample room for swinging, shagging, salsa-ing and all sorts of dancing.
The dance club joins a vibrant and highly trafficked block of Main Street that also boasts Mast General Store, The Nickelodeon indie movie theater, boutique bowling alley The Grand, Hendrix restaurant and rooftop bar, Good Life vegan cafe and the Main Course restaurant, bar and event venue, which features Topgolf Swing Suites.
