Cayce Knights Inn closed down for crime reports catches fire, officials say

A Midlands motel that was forced to close because of crime caught fire Friday evening, officials said.

Cayce Department of Public safety responded to a fire at The Knights Inn on Airport Boulevard at 7:35 p.m. Friday, spokesman Evan Antley told The State.

By 7:45 the fire was contained and by 8 p.m. the fire was out save for a few “hot spots,” Antley said.

The fire damaged 5 rooms in the 400 building, completely destroying one room, Antley said.

Officials have not said what caused the fire because the investigation is still preliminary, Antley said.

The now-abandoned Knights Inn put a strain on public safety resources, city officials alleged in a previous article from The State.

When officials suspended the motel’s business license, they cited reports of attempted murder, sexual assault, drug trafficking, strong-armed robbery and more, according to the article.
