Longtime local TV personality leaving Columbia market for new job

Tim Miller, a fixture in Columbia media for more than two decades, announced Monday that he is leaving the area.

Miller made the announcement on WIS-TV’s “Sunrise Morning” program. He has been a meteorologist on the station’s morning program since 2012.

Miller is going to be a chief meteorologist for a WJBF Channel 6 in Augusta, he announced. His last day with WIS is May 15.

“I hate to leave but you’re in good hands,” he said to viewers Monday morning as he praised the WIS weather team. “You’ve allowed me in your homes every day and we’ve been through a lot. I am sure I’m going to miss you.”

Miller has won three Emmy awards at WIS over the past two years.

Before the WIS role, Miller was general manager of Double O Radio, which featured WWNU-FM (Carolina 92.1) and WWNQ-FM (Country Legends 94.3).

Before that, Miller worked at WACH Fox in Columbia from 2003-10 and was an anchor on the station’s “Good Day Columbia” morning show.

Miller also was the director of communications for Oliver Gospel Mission and director of operations for Citadel Broadcasting in Columbia.
