Masks to be required on all Columbia airline flights. Other coronavirus measures set

All airlines operating from Columbia Metropolitan Airport have announced that passengers will be required to wear masks during the cornoavirus pandemic.

Delta Air Lines and United Airlines began requiring masks on Monday, the airport said in the news release, while American Airlines will begin requiring masks May 11.

All of the airlines are providing the masks free of charge if passengers do not have their own, the release said.

The airport continues to monitor the Centers for Disease Control and S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines for updates and information pertaining to COVID-19, the release said, and “continues to work with airline and concessionaire partners to review and implement measures to ensure the airport’s cleanliness and safety for our travelers and employees.”

Delta, American and United are all operating at a reduced capacity, the release said.

“Each airline sets flight schedules as they see fit and can be adjusted at any time,” the release said. “Because of this, CAE encourages travelers to check with their respective airline before heading out to the airport,

Among other safety measures instituted are:

Additional hand sanitizer stations have been placed throughout the terminal and at all departure gates.

Restrooms are being cleaned every two hours, but as traffic increases, cleanings will increase to hourly.

Increased sanitizing is being done in the public seating areas and in the high-touch areas such as handrails, escalators and elevators.

Food concessionaires are serving a limited menu and practicing social distancing for diners.

Retail shops are installing shields at all registers and employees are cleaning and sanitizing credit card machines after every use.

A Plexiglas shield has been installed at the check-in desk at TSA security checkpoint,

Markers to identify proper spacing have been placed on the floor at TSA security checkpoint and in retail stores.
