New coffee shop, taproom opens in downtown Columbia just as restaurant dining resumes

Just in time for the return of indoor and outdoor dining across South Carolina, a new coffee shop and taproom has opened in downtown Columbia.

The Front Coffee and Tap opened Monday at Sola Station, part of the CanalSide apartment complex along the Columbia riverfront.

Owner Sean Powers, a University of South Carolina graduate, is making his mark by opening the first business at the residential development.

The Front brews coffee from North Carolina-based Counter Culture Coffee and also serves tea, beer, wine and pastries.

For now, the cafe is doing to-go orders and has outdoor seating available. Starting next week, indoor seating will open, Powers said.

The Front is located at 622 Canalside St. and is open 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
