How did Columbia singer CammWess fare in ‘The Voice’ finale?
Columbia-area native CammWess fell short the finale of the popular national talent show “The Voice,” despite performances of “Purple Rain” and an original love song that won the praise of judges.
The 22-year-old from Blythewood finished fourth in the final voting results that were revealed Tuesday night.
From the porch of his Blythewood home, CammWess had wowed the NBC judges and fans across America with his cover of the Prince classic on Monday night. And his soulful original song, “Save It for Tomorrow,” was dubbed “instantly catchy” by pop star John Legend, CammWess’ musical mentor on the show.
Todd Tilghman proved to be the show’s fan favorite, winning “The Voice” title in the show’s 18th season.
CammWess, who grew up in Hopkins and graduated from Columbia’s Dreher High School, was one of five finalists to compete in the show’s final round.
CammWess drew high marks throughout the season as a member of Team Legend. It was an unusual season of “The Voice,” with contestants performing from their own homes for the final few weeks due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
CammWess got his musical start singing in choir, and he taught himself to play the piano, according to NBC. He attended Winthrop University but has put college on hold for the time being to pursue music full-time.
