Lexington 3 moves graduation indoors because of storm threat

Lexington 3 is moving its centennial graduation ceremony indoors because of the threat of stormy weather.

The commencement ceremony will be moved from Panther Stadium at Batesburg-Leesville High School to the fine arts center on the campus. The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service predicts showers and thunderstorms are likely Friday, mainly after 11 a.m. The chance of rain is 60% during the day with new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 85 and south winds around 6 mile per hour.

Friday night there is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms with a quarter and half of an inch of rain possible.

For the Lexington 3 graduation, two tickets will be given to each graduate at a 10 a.m. practice at the fine arts center. Practice attendance is mandatory for students to participate in the evening ceremony.

The following guidelines will be strictly enforced, the district said:

Each attendee will be required to sit in pre-marked areas and are encouraged to maintain social distancing.

Students are urged to use sanitation stations set up throughout the center.

Participants will be dismissed in shifts in an effort to prevent large crowds from forming.

Families are requested to take group photos at home before or after the ceremony.

The ceremony will be live streamed on the Lexington 3 Facebook page and Lexington 3 YouTube Channel.
