Some Columbia-area BI-LO stores to become Food Lions after acquisition

Several Columbia-area grocery stores will be changing brands after Food Lion has acquired more than five dozen BI-LO and Harveys Supermarket stores across South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Food Lion announced the acquisition Wednesday, saying it will hire at least 4,650 employees to work at the 62 stores across those three states.

The acquisition includes five BI-LO stores in the Columbia area:

  • 4464 Devine St., Columbia
  • 6021 St. Andrews Road, Columbia
  • 300 Knox Abbott Drive, Cayce
  • 2453 Charleston Highway, Cayce
  • 1126 U.S. Highway 321, Winnsboro

These stores will be converted to the Food Lion brand sometime between January and April of 2021, according to a Food Lion news release. The stores will remain open and operating as BI-LO stores until the acquisition is complete.

Several other BI-LO stores across the Midlands were not included in the Food Lion acquisition. There are no Harveys Supermarket stores in the Midlands.

BI-LO and Harveys Supermarket stores are operated by Southeastern Grocers.

In addition to selling the 62 stores to Food Lion, Southeastern Grocers also will transition a distribution center in Mauldin to Ahold Delhaize USA (ADUSA) Distribution, LLC, which will support the newly acquired stores as well as current Food Lion stores.

Food Lion currently operates at least 116 stores in South Carolina, according to the company.
