Pinckney's caisson leaves for State House at noon

A horse-drawn caisson carrying the casket of Sen. Clementa Pinckney to the State House will make its way through downtown Columbia starting around noon.

The caisson will leave Leevy's Funeral Home on Taylor Street, heading toward Main Street. Once on Main, the caisson will make its way to the north side of the State House. It is expected to arrive there around 12:30 p.m.

Streets will not be closed, but an escort of law enforcement officials will control traffic along the caisson's route.

A public viewing at the State House for Pinckney, killed one week ago along with eight others at Charleston's Emanuel AME Church, will run from1-5 p.m.
