Wells Fargo to donate $100,000 to Sen. Clementa Pinckney fund
One of the region’s leading financial institutions says it will donate money to Sen. Clementa Pinckney’s fund, the Palmetto Project, in support of the victims and families of the Emanuel AME church shootings in Charleston.
Wells Fargo announced Thursday that it will donate a $100,000 grant to the fund, according to a statement released by the company. The purpose of the fund is to support the victims, their families and the programmatic ministries of the late Rev. Clementa Pinckney, who along with 8 others died in the June 17 shootings, the statement said.
The $100,000 grant will specifically support counseling services for families, survivors and church members. In addition, the grant will help support local initiatives serving vulnerable populations, youth projects and diversity and inclusion training with a focus on ending racism.
“Wells Fargo is committed to honoring the victims, supporting their families and recognizing the efforts of the Rev. Pinckney,” said Rick Redden, Wells Fargo Lead Regional President for the Carolinas. “We want to join the City of Charleston in promoting unity and community support during this challenging time. Our team members, customers and local communities around the Carolinas have all been impacted by this tragedy. We hope our contribution will play an important role in the healing process.”
Persons interested in donating to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund, established by the City of Charleston to raise funds to aid the victims’ families, can visit any Wells Fargo banking store. For more information on the fund, visit the City of Charleston’s website.
