A teacher at a Columbia charter school has been fired after allegedly writing the n-word on a classroom board.

The teacher, whose name has not been made public, was fired Friday from Clear Dot Charter School following backlash from parents, said the school’s Title IX coordinator Denise Bryant.

Title IX is the federal law that prohibits discrimination in education.

Clear Dot is a predominantly Black school in the North Main area of Columbia, according to the National Center for Education Statistics.

The teacher who allegedly wrote the slur was white, according to WIS.

The school is still investigating the incident and it is unclear why the teacher wrote the racial slur.

“Clear Dot Charter School will never tolerate any kind of inappropriate behavior and is committed to creating and maintaining a welcoming environment for all students,” Bryant said.
