Halloween might be spooky, but there’s no fright in the Midlands weather for today.

The National Weather Service says it plainly: “It’s going to be a nice day with above normal temperatures.”

The high is expected to be 72 in Columbia, dipping down to 47 this evening. Not bad for the last day of October and for walking house to house for treats — or tricks.

The Weather Service says enjoy this sunny, warming trend because it’s not going to last long.

By Thursday afternoon showers are expected to move in. The high for the day will be 61. By Friday, the high will likely be near 56. Friday night, the low could drop down to 39. That’s not cold enough to freeze vegetation, but still plenty chilly.

Experts encourage people to bring in houseplants when the temperature goes below 45.
