Country singer who refuses to play venues with any COVID restrictions announces SC concert
Country star Travis Tritt will be playing an upcoming concert in Myrtle Beach.
Tritt’s Acoustic Solo Tour will play Calvin Gilmore’s Carolina Opry Theater on Jan. 22, 2022, the tour announced Thursday.
Tritt’s tour has made recent headlines as the singer canceled shows at other venues with strict COVID-19 policies in place. Tritt announced last month he would not play a show if the venue required patrons to show proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test before they can enter.
That move immediately canceled four upcoming tour stops in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Mississippi, the Tennessean reported. Another upcoming Tritt concert at Columbia’s Township Auditorium on Nov. 20 also has been canceled, according to the Township’s website.
“I’m putting my money where my mouth is and announcing that any venue or promoter mandating masks, requiring vaccinations, or pushing COVID testing protocols on my fans will not be tolerated,” Tritt said in a written statement.
Tritt is part of a trend of entertainers setting conditions on how venues handle the pandemic. In September, singer/songwriter Jason Isbell played a socially-distanced show at the Columbia Speedway Amphitheater after announcing he would only play venues with strict COVID requirements in place.
Tritt is a three-decade veteran of country music with 11 studio albums and numerous Top 10 hits, including “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” “It’s A Great Day to Be Alive” and “Best of Intentions.”
