Northside Christian Academy in Lexington is on lock down after police received a “prank” call about a man with a weapon, according to the Lexington Police Department and the school.

The police have not publicly called off the lock down but a text sent to parents said that the call about an intruder was believed to be a prank.

“Out of upmost caution and concern for our Northside students and staff, we called the police to investigate what we believe to be a prank message saying an intruder was in our building,” the school told parents. “The police have checked every area of our building to ensure complete safety. We are very sorry for any worry or concern. We take very seriously the care and safety of our students.”

At about 5:30 p.m., the department said that “the call of a man with a weapon on the campus is believed to unfounded.”

“All students, faculty, and staff have been removed from the building and officers are now searching the building a second time to ensure that no one is still inside,” the department said.

The department put out a statement about the lock down at about 5 p.m. As of 5:30 p.m. there was still a large police presence at the school.

Northside Christian Academy is at 4347 Sunset Blvd.
