Columbia holiday parade returns after last year’s cancellation. Here’s when and where

A year ago, the Carolina Carillon Holiday Parade was among a wave of canceled events because of the global pandemic. But now it is set to ring in the holiday season in downtown Columbia once again.

The 68th Carolina Carillon Parade, considered the official holiday parade of South Carolina, is set for 9:45 a.m. Saturday. It will begin at Sumter and Laurel streets and proceed south on Sumter, ending at Senate Street.

Television station WIS will broadcast the parade, with coverage beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to the parade’s website, there will be nearly 100 “festive” entries, including a number of bands, Capital City Cloggers and the Columbia City Ballet.

“This year there will be some very special SC celebrities, new marching bands, drill teams, local churches, dozens of beautiful floats, and of course, the most exciting part of the parade, Santa Claus,” per the parade website.
