A new car wash is being considered for one of Columbia’s busiest commercial corridors.

A Time to Shine Car Wash is being planned at 291 Harbison Blvd. That’s at the corner of Harbison Boulevard and Columbiana Drive, in the heart of the bustling Harbison shopping district. The site is the former home of a BB&T bank branch. It’s near the Columbiana Centre mall and across the street from a popular Chick-fil-A location.

The car wash is set for a site plan review by the Columbia Planning Commission at a Dec. 6 meeting. Paperwork filed with the city shows a stamp of approval for the plan from the Harbison Community Association’s design and development review committee.

The application for the project calls for an automated car wash, with customer vacuums and parking spaces for employees. The bank building on the property would be demolished, and there would be the necessary grading, paving, erosion control and infrastructure that would be required for a car wash facility. The car wash building itself would be 4,300 square feet, per city paperwork.

There currently is one other Time to Shine Car Wash location in Columbia, at 5490 Forest Drive. The company also has South Carolina locations in Charleston, Goose Creek and Mt. Pleasant. There are also several Time to Shine spots in Oklahoma.
