The state Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left one person dead Thursday morning after they were hit by a tractor trailer on a Richland County highway.

Highway Patrol Master Trooper David Jones said the crash happened at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound side of Interstate 20, around mile-marker 68 in Richland County.

The truck driver was driving east when they hit a pedestrian standing in the road, Jones said. The pedestrian died, and the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.
