Revolutionary: SC has a new specialty license plate. Here’s when you can get it
South Carolina residents soon will be able to give their cars or motorcycles a revolutionary flair.
The state Department of Motor Vehicles announced that, on Jan. 1, it will begin offering a 250th Year Anniversary Revolutionary War specialty license plate.
The plate can be obtained for the price of a regular vehicle registration, which is $40 for standard cars.
The Revolutionary War was fought from 1775 to 1783. The new SC specialty license plates would sunset in 2033, which would be 250 years from the end of the war.
A release from the DMV said the SC Revolutionary War Sestercentennial Commission offered the design for the specialty plate.
“The 250 Commission’s mission is to celebrate and promote South Carolina’s role in the American Revolution, state Rep. Neal Collins said in a statement. “As with the bicentennial plate in 1976, I’m excited our citizens will have an opportunity to use a beautiful license plate to promote our state’s rich history.”
Collins, an attorney and Pickens County Republican, introduced a bill for the license plate earlier this year.
Residents can get the plate at the SCDMV’s website or at any SCDMV branch.
According to the DMV website, there are more than 70 specialty license plates available in South Carolina, celebrating everything from past Clemson University football championships to the shag dance to the Boykin Spaniel Foundation and beyond.
