A new restaurant offering breakfast and lunch has debuted near downtown Lexington.

The Comfort Scratch Kitchen is now open at 407 North Lake Drive in Lexington. It’s across the street from Lexington Elementary School, not far from the town’s Main Street corridor. The new spot is in the location formerly occupied by Sapori Italian restaurant.

Comfort Scratch Kitchen is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, according to hours posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page. It’s closed on Sundays and will be closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

The restaurant features a diverse breakfast menu that it serves all day. Among the highlights is the Smothered Mother, which is biscuits smothered in pork gravy, served with pulled pork belly, scrambled eggs, caramelized onions and shredded cheese. The restaurant also has bakery items including cinnamon rolls, mini Bundt cakes and more.

Meanwhile, the lunch menu at Comfort Scratch Kitchen includes salads, sandwiches, burgers and appetizers. It also has an entree list that includes chicken pot pie, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and more.

Parking for Cormfort Scratch Kitchen is at the gravel lot where Meetze and Wingard streets meet, per a message on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

The opening of Comfort Scratch Kitchen adds another page to the portfolio of the lively dining scene in the downtown Lexington area, which has added a number of businesses in recent years, including Craft Axe Throwing, Alodia’s, O’Hara’s Public House, Bodhi Thai Dining and others.
