S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating a death caused by a three-car collision in Newberry County three days before Christmas.

Law enforcement says the driver of a 2008 Toyota Prius died around 7:40 p.m. Wednesday after the car was struck by a 2017 Ford pick-up truck on U.S. 76 about a mile west of Prosperity.

The Prius was traveling east on 76 when the pick-up, driven by a 33-year-old Prosperity man, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Prius. The pick-up driver was uninjured, according to the Highway Patrol, but was transported from the scene to Newberry Hospital.

The identity of the Prius driver has not been released.

A third vehicle driving westbound on U.S. 76, a 2014 Honda Odyssey, was struck by flyin debris from the collision. Six people in that vehicle were reportedly uninjured.

The collision remains under investigation.
