The National Weather Service predicts the Columbia area could flirt with record high temperatures on Dec. 26, 2021.

With due respect to the classic holiday song “Let It Snow,” the weather outside is not very frightful, at least in Columbia.

The National Weather Service’s forecast office in Columbia predicts the temperature in the capital city Sunday could match the record high for Dec. 26 set nearly 60 years ago. The NWS said temps might reach 77 degrees in Columbia. If so, that would tie the Dec. 26 record high for the capital city set in 1964.

The normal temperature for Columbia this time of year is 57 degrees, the NWS notes. The record low was set in 1983, at 6 degrees.

TV station WIS predicts high temperatures will reach the 70s daily for most of the next week.
