A new location in a small chain of Mexican restaurants is coming to Irmo.
El Jimador Restaurante is set to open later in January at 1072 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo. The restaurant will be located next door to Dems Fine Jewelers. A restaurant spokesman said construction on the facility is complete and it is awaiting licensing.
The El Jimador restaurants are owned by Chef Francisco Macias and offer a number of traditional, regional and homemade Mexican menu items, plus numerous drink offerings. El Jimador also offers wings and salads and has a robust menu of seafood specials.
The Irmo location will be the fifth El Jimador in the Midlands. There also are two locations in Lexington, one on Fashion Drive in northeast Columbia and one on Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce.
The Irmo El Jimador will be opening on a heavily trafficked corridor. Traffic count stats from the state Department of Transportation indicate about 25,000 cars per day traverse down that stretch of Lake Murray Boulevard, a commercial stretch that is host to a number of stores, restaurants and other businesses.
