Six displaced after blaze destroys Columbia home, fire department says
Six people lost their home Tuesday night as a fire destroyed the building, the Columbia Fire Department said.
At about 10:30 p.m., firefighters responded to the burning home on Allans Mill Drive, according to the fire department. That’s near Sesquicentennial State Park, about 3 miles from the junction of Interstate 20 and Interstate 77.
The firefighters said a heavy amount of fire was quickly spreading through the home. Flames could be seen coming from multiple spots in the roof in a photo shared by the fire department.
Information on how long it took firefighters to get the flames under control and the blaze extinguished was not available.
No injuries were reported, but the home is considered a total loss, according to the fire department.
There was no word on the cause, or origin, of the fire, but it is being investigated by the Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office.
The American Red Cross said its disaster-trained volunteers are assisting the family by providing financial support for immediate needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, along with referrals to much needed resources.
