There’s a new bakery coming to West Columbia.

Love-A-Cup Bakery, which specializes in cupcakes and a number of other treats, will soon open in the Georgetown shopping center at 2213 Augusta Road in West Columbia. That shopping center also includes a Subway, a Moe’s and a Tokyo Grill, among other offerings. It’s right next to the Chick-fil-A that is at the corner of Augusta and Dreher roads.

Love-A-Cup owner Cindy Curry told The State, pending final approvals from the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, she plans to open the bakery on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Curry said that she has been cooking and baking almost all of her life. She has worked as a nurse, and she said she studied to be a pastry chef at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. Her cupcakes and other sweet confections have been on the scene in the Midlands for several years, as she has a frequent presence at the U.S. #1 Metro Flea Market and has sold cupcakes and more at the Lake Carolina Market, State Farmers Market and elsewhere. She also had a bakery shop in Lexington for a short time.

“People have come to know me for the cupcakes, but hopefully (with the new shop) they will come to know me for everything else, as far as breads and croissants and pralines,” Curry said. “The croissants are made freshly, by hand. We also make our own cannoli. And a lot of people from the (U.S. #1) market know me for my brownies. They are addictive, they say.”

The Love-A-Cup store on Augusta Road also will offer soups, salads, scones, espresso, breakfast sandwiches and more.

Curry said she intends to continue offering Love-A-Cup pastries at the U.S. #1 Metro Flea Market. But she is particularly excited about the new brick-and-mortar storefront in West Columbia.

“I’ve always loved baking,” Curry said. “It’s a love thing. I call it Love-A-Cup because there is a cup of love in every bite.”
