Primal, formerly known as Primal Gourmet, is reopening in West Columbia on Feb. 15, 2022.

A West Columbia market that has become known for healthy prepared meals with fresh ingredients is set to reopen following a temporary closure last month, and it’s coming back with a slightly tweaked name.

Primal Gourmet, located at 725 Meeting St. in West Columbia, plans to reopen on Feb. 15 and is already taking meal orders for that day, according to a post on the business’ social media. And the business is coming back with a shortened moniker. It will now simply be called Primal.

It also will be debuting Brickhouse Gourmet Coffee and Tea as a full service coffee shop inside the market. That coffee shop is expected to be up and running in the coming weeks, per the market’s recent social media notice.

In late January, Primal announced it would be temporarily closing, citing a convergence of industry and supply chain issues.

“We have been hit with a perfect storm of bad circumstances that many in our industry have also experienced, and we are not satisfied that we can currently provide our services with the quality and value we promise our customers,” owner Greg Martin wrote in a January statement.

He also wrote at the time that he hoped Primal’s reboot would be measured in weeks, not months.

That turned out to be the case, as the business is now set to crank up again, with some tweaks, such as the name change and the coffee shop addition. It is also rebranding its prepared meal programs to Primal Prep Health and Primal Prep Home.

“Primal is back and a lot of good stuff is happening,” Martin said in a Wednesday video on Primal’s Facebook page. “Looking forward to seeing you guys soon.”
