You might see helicopters flying low over Lexington this weekend. Here’s why

A helicopter flies past a United States flag raised during a 9/11 memorial ceremony in downtown Macon Friday morning. The event was held to “remember the 2001 terrorist attacks and honor the first responders that protect our county and country on a daily basis.”

Dominion Energy contractors plan to use a helicopter to perform overhead electric line work in Lexington this weekend.

According to a Thursday press release, the work will require some temporary traffic delays on Saturday and Sunday. The aircraft will be used along 3 miles of line in existing rights of way, starting at Wise Ferry Road and finishing at Dreher Street.

While the work is underway, helicopters might be seen flying at low altitudes near electric lines and poles.

Work will include installing lines across U.S. Highway 378 (Columbia Ave.) and U.S. Highway 6 (N. Lake Drive) close to the intersection of both roads. Crews will start working around this intersection on 8 a.m. Sunday.

The press release advises everyone traveling in the area to expect delays, use caution and follow directions from traffic control crews.

Dominion Energy provides service to more than 782,000 electric customers in South Carolina.
