80-year-old Midlands man dies after Monday night house fire

An 80-year-old man died Monday night following a house fire in Sumter.

According to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, Herbert Follin, 80, died at Prisma Health Tuomey hospital after the blaze. An autopsy was set for Tuesday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

A release from the coroner’s office said the fire happened at about 8 p.m. Monday night in the 1800 Block of Follin Drive in Sumter. That’s about 5 miles west of U.S. Route 15.

The Sumter Fire Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Department and Sumter County Coroner’s Office are investigating, according to Baker.
