Pedestrian killed after being hit by car on interstate in Lexington

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car late Tuesday night on an interstate in Lexington County.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper David Jones, the incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 20 at about the 39 mile marker. That’s in the Batesburg-Leeseville area.

The trooper said a 2004 Honda Accord was traveling west on I-20, and a pedestrian was walking in the roadway. The pedestrian was struck by the Honda and was killed.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the pedestrian as Solomon Emmanuel Gilmore, 24, of Charlotte. The coroner said Gilmore’s vehicle had broken down about 2 miles away, at about the 41 mile marker.
