A North Carolina-based restaurant chain is looking to expand into the Columbia market and a host of other South Carolina cities.

Famous Toastery, which specializes in breakfast, brunch and lunch, announced it hopes to open locations in the Columbia, Greenville, Spartanburg, Clemson, Charleston and Myrtle Beach areas. The restaurant currently has 25 locations across North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia and is looking to get to 50 locations by 2024.

Currently, Famous Toastery has South Carolina locations in Indian Land, Tega Cay, Clover and on Oakheart Road in Myrtle Beach.

Robert Maynard is the founder and CEO of Famous Toastery, which started in 2005. He said the company is intent on establishing a bigger footprint in South Carolina.

“We are very excited about the future, specifically in the Columbia market and Greenville market,” Maynard told The State. “We love the Columbia market. There is so much happening in Columbia, some amazing developments. You have Columbia, Lexington and all of these spots that are just emerging. So we do see the light there.”

Maynard said he anticipates there could be “multiple stores” in the Columbia area. He said the company has its eye on some locations but noted he is not yet ready to announce them. Maynard said Famous Toastery is open to talking to potential franchisees.

Famous Toastery serves breakfast and lunch all day, including a deep roster of omelets, French toast, flapjacks, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, breakfast pizza, wraps, salads, burgers and much more. It also has a number of cocktails on the drink menu.

Maynard said the chain puts a premium on quality.

“We are an affordable, high-end breakfast-brunch-lunch,” he said. “It’s what you’d consider a better breakfast concept that actually makes everything fresh. ... We actually make everything that day, for that day. We make our own salad dressings, roast our own turkey, we make our own soups, we make our own corned beef hash from scratch. That’s the differentiator.”

This would not mark the first time Famous Toastery will have tested the Columbia market. It previously had a location on Sparkleberry Lane in the northeast. That spot closed in 2019.

But Maynard said the company has grown and thrived since then and is ready for acceleration.

“We are much bigger and much stronger now,” Maynard said of the brand. “We know a lot more now. We have some industry veterans that we’ve brought on.”
