Authorities are seeking the public’s help identifying a man who used stolen credit card information in early June to make purchases at Wal-mart on Two Notch Road.

Screen shots of surveillance video were released by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect entered the Wal-Mart at 10060 Two Notch Road at 6:40 pm on June 5. He used a cloned copy of the victim’s credit card to purchase $221.47 in goods.

In announcing the crime, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott urged citizens to use care when making credit card and debit purchases.

“..those who are out to steal your personal information may be using camera phones or other devices illegally attached to scanning machines in order to compromise your card,” Lott said.

Or they might purchase your credit card or debit information and load it onto a blank credit card.

If you have ever swiped your credit or debit card at a gas station pump, ATM machine or other vending machine such as a movie ticket kiosk, you are at risk, security experts warn.

You can take steps to protect yourself from card skimmers, as an October 2014 article in PC Magazine details.

If you can help authorities identify the man in the surveillance photos, you are asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, text CRIMES (274637) and mark the beginning of the message with “TIPSC” followed by the tip information, or log onto www.midlandscrimestoppers.com and click on the red “Submit a tip” tab.
