A West Columbia market that has become known for healthy prepared meals with fresh ingredients is closing.

Primal Gourmet announced in a Facebook post on Sunday that it was shutting down operations effective immediately. It was set to be open Monday until its products were sold out. The closure comes after the business temporarily shuttered in January. It returned in a rebranded form in February, under the name Primal.

The shop is located at 725 Meeting St. Primal owner Greg Martin stressed in the social media post that other businesses that are located in that facility, including Brickhouse Gourmet Coffee and Teas and the Dorsia Pasta Co., are still open and will continue to operate. He noted other businesses may also move into the facility.

Primal was in business for six years. Martin said there wasn’t a singular, simple reason the business closed.

“As you can imagine, it’s not just one issue,” he wrote. “It’s many, many problems that became too complex and daunting to overcome. ... Luckily though, I got to lead an incredible staff. We have been fortunate enough to employ without a doubt the best group of humans that ever ran a food service establishment. I mean that.”
