A tornado reportedly touched down in Allendale County on Tuesday and caused damage to the area, the scope of which is currently unknown.

The tornado was captured on radar around 4 p.m. on Tuesday in Allendale, prompting a tornado emergency declaration, according to the National Weather Service. A tornado emergency is a step beyond a tornado warning. It is declared only when a tornado is in progress and will likely significantly impact human life and cause major damage to property.

Soon after the declaration, Brannon Deal of Georgia recorded a Facebook Live of the tornado, saying in the video that he was in Allendale.

“We watched it build around us,” Deal said in the video. “As you can see it’s ... Lord help the ones in the path of that tornado right now.”

According to the South Carolina Emergency Management Division on Tuesday, there was a report of at least one injury, but no fatalities from the storm. The agency stated Tuesday evening that it had crews out helping people impacted by the storms in Allendale and other counties.

Pictures posted by the agency and others showed downed trees in streets and damaged structures.

The agency also stated that the Red Cross had opened an emergency shelter at the Allendale-Fairfax Elementary School at 3305 Allendale-Fairax Highway. Service animals are allowed at the site.
