Piano players will soon be tickling the ivories in the heart of downtown Columbia.

Columbia’s Middleton family, which has opened a number of businesses along Main Street, recently announced the opening of a new dueling piano bar, The Venue, at 1626 Main St. The piano bar will be adjacent to the family’s Main Course restaurant, which is addressed at 1624 Main St.

According to a news release, there will be a grand opening celebration for The Venue from 6 to 10 p.m. April 15.

“The Venue is Main Street’s modern allusion to the glamorous secrecy of the Prohibition-era speakeasy, where art, music, and culture thrive without restraint,” the release said. It went on to say that the piano bar will be “a destination for lovers of upscale piano, cabaret, and classic libations.”

The arrival of the dueling piano bar was first reported by Free Times.

According to the release, The Venue will feature “casual piano and cabaret” Sundays through Thursdays, and then will have more raucous dueling piano shows on Friday and Saturday nights, where audience members can tip the piano players and make requests.

As for food and drinks, the spot will offer a number of cocktails and will also have many of the menu staples of the adjacent Main Course, though over time it plans to work in dishes that are exclusive to The Venue.

The Middleton family has opened several businesses along the 1600 block of Main Street, including The Grand, which has a boutique bowling alley, and the upscale Smoked restaurant. They are also prepping the Peak Drift Brewing Company brewery on north Main Street.
