A barber shop that has been located in Columbia’s Five Points shopping and nightlife district is headed to a new location.

Soda City Barbers, which currently is located at 720 Santee Ave. in Five Points, will move to 2321 Devine St. The Devine Street location is about half a mile east of the current shop. It is next door to the Goodwyn Law Firm building.

According to shop co-owner Danny Trujillo, Soda City Barbers has been in its Santee Avenue location for about three and a half years. The shop currently has four barbers, but it will have five barbers when it transitions to the new Devine Street location. Trujillo said he is hopeful the Devine Street spot will be open in May.

On Devine Street, Soda City Barbers will occupy the first floor of a two-story brick building. Trujillo said the move will give the shop quite a bit more room to operate that it has in the current shop.

“For us it was just a matter of getting a little bit more space,” Trujillo said. “We would like to eventually have some apprentices. We are just kind of at capacity where we are right now (on Santee). It’s just a bigger space.”

Trujillo, who co-owns Soda City Barbers with Zayne Ward, said the barbers at Soda City are excited about the move.

“We are really looking forward to it,” Trujillo said. “Right now it has been kind of stressful because we work (on Santee Avenue) all day and when we are not here we are at the other place. It’s getting closer and closer and we are getting more excited. Our clients are looking forward to it.”
