Columbia firefighters rescue person from burning house, department says

Firefighters saved a person trapped in a burning house Friday, the Columbia Fire Department said.

Firefighters were called about a house fire on Furwood Circle in north Columbia at about 1:15 p.m. Fire was coming out of the windows when they arrived.

A person told firefighters someone was trapped in the house. A person had tried to rescue the person inside but couldn’t get them out, the department said.

Firefighters breached the burning house, found the person trapped in a backroom and got the person out, the department said. Firefighters got the blaze under control and extinguished it.

The person who had been entrapped was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, the department said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
