There are only two slices left, and y’all are going to have to fight over them.

The final round has arrived in The State’s 2022 Pizza Bracket. After four rounds of voting, only two pizza places remain: Village Idiot and Bellacino’s.

The bracket kicked off on April 4 with 32 entrants selected by staffers at The State. The field was then whittled down to 16 in the next round, then to eight in Round 3, and four in Round 4.

Now we are asking readers to make the ultimate choice in selecting the top pizza joint in the Midlands. It’s up to you to vote on which pie-slinger reigns supreme. Pun intended.

Bellacino’s has locations across the South and Midwest, including two in the Midlands: One on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington and another on Lake Murray Boulevard over in Irmo. It is known for its solid menu of pizzas (with slices cut into little squares, rather than the traditional triangle-like shape) and grinder sandwiches.

Village Idiot has been a Columbia-area favorite for more than 30 years. It has three locations: One in Five Points, one in Forest Acres, and another at The Mills in Olympia. Village Idiot specializes in New York-style pizza, which you can get in whole pies or by the slice. It also has wings, sandwiches and other treats.

We are asking readers to trim the bracket one last time by choosing either Bellacino’s or Village Idiot in the poll below. Now, this is not a scientific or all-encompassing poll. But, as rocker Henry Rollins once noted, “Pizza makes me think that anything is possible.” And in times like these, if you can’t trust the likes of Henry Rollins, who can you trust?

You have until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, to cast your votes in the final round, the Tomato Sauce Two.

So place your vote, and choose wisely.
