WIS chief meteorologist Dominic Brown lands a new job. Here’s where he’s headed
Dominic Brown, the chief meteorologist at Columbia TV station WIS, is leaving for a new job.
Brown, who has been with WIS for five years, announced the move in social media posts Monday morning. He said this will be his last week at WIS, an NBC affiliate.
“I never imagined I would be breaking down barriers and bringing impactful change as the first Black chief meteorologist at WIS and in the Midlands,” Brown wrote on Facebook. “I never thought I would have an opportunity like this to lead a phenomenal weather team, and through my colleagues’ hard work, help navigate our viewers through some of the toughest storms, events and moments we’ve had to endure in quite some time here in the Columbia area.”
Brown is headed to the Dallas-Forth Worth area in Texas, where he will be a meteorologist for KTVT CBS 11, commonly known as CBS DFW.
Other meteorologists currently working at WIS include Adam Clark, Von Gaskin and Kevin Arnone.
Brown has become a fixture on Columbia TV, particularly during WIS’ “First Alert” broadcasts during strong storms. He is known for his hustle, such as when he pulled out an old paper map during a 2021 storm and started calling out rural roads that could be affected.
“So, Columbia and the Midlands, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all of the love and support over the past five years!” Brown wrote on social media. “I wouldn’t be who I am without YOU. Thank you for stopping me in the grocery store or while walking down the street to say hello. Thank you teachers and students for inviting me to your schools!”
