Funeral arrangements made for Cayce police officer killed in the line of duty
Funeral arrangements have been made for Roy Andrew “Drew” Barr, the Cayce police officer who was killed in the line of duty Sunday.
Multiple events honoring the life of the 27-year-old Barr will be held on Thursday, according to the Cayce Police Department.
At 3 p.m., a visitation will be held at Batesburg-Leesville High School. That will be followed by a funeral service scheduled for 5 p.m., also at the high school.
Immediately after that, a graveside service and burial will be held at Mt. Ebal Baptist Church cemetery.
Barr was a Public Safety Officer-K9 handler with the Cayce police for the past five years.
When he was a teenager, Barr started serving at the Monetta Volunteer Fire Department, eventually becoming a fire captain. By 19, he was an EMT with the Lexington County EMS, before he graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy in 2017 and joined the Cayce police.
“He was happiest when he was spending time with his K-9 dog Molly and serving his community,” his obituary said. “Drew loved to fish, hunt and spend time with his friends.”
Barr is survived by his parents and sister, among other family members, according to the obituary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Monetta Volunteer Fire Department, or Cayce Public Safety Foundation – Earmark for Drew Barr.
