The wreck happened on Garners Ferry Road near Cross Creek Road at about 5 a.m., Trooper Brian Lee reported. A car traveling west ran off the road, hit a guard rail and came to a stop in the road. A truck hit the wrecked car, Lee said.

The driver of the car died, and the truck driver was hospitalized, according to Lee.

On Sunday, the Richland County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased driver as Boyd Jones, 77, of Lexington. The highway patrol is continuing to investigate the collision.
