Columbia’s Vista getting new bar and grill in former World of Beer spot
A new bar and grill plans to set up shop in Columbia’s Vista nightlife and entertainment district.
According to paperwork filed with the city of Columbia, a restaurant called Jay’s Bar and Grill plans to open at 902 Gervais St. in the row of business storefronts that are located behind the LongHorn Steakhouse. The establishment would occupy the space formerly held by World of Beer, which closed in 2020.
The Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals passed a measure at its May 5 meeting that will make way for the bar and grill to be open until 2 a.m.
The business’ zoning application notes Jay’s plans to be open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. The paperwork says it will be a sports bar with numerous TVs and will occasionally have a band or DJs.
American fare dots the list of menu items the restaurant says it will have, including burgers, fries, wraps, chicken wings, hush puppies, chicken tenders and more.
State Rep. Seth Rose, a Columbia Democrat, wrote a letter to the zoning board in support of the coming establishment being able to be open until 2 a.m., noting he is glad to see investment in a spot that has been vacant for almost two years.
There has been a recent uptick of businesses locating in the storefronts that run behind the Vista LongHorn. Peebles wings and barbecue restaurant set up a location there, and The Post and Courier reported that Silk Restaurant and Lounge is prepping an upscale establishment along the strip, as well.
